Day 3: Wednesday, December 27, 2017

To the First Hebrew City in 2000 Years

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Family Scavenger Hunt along Rothschild Boulevard, connecting the origins of Tel Aviv and Tel Aviv’s UNESCO White City Bauhaus architecture with the modern 24/7 Tel Aviv of today.

  • Experience the multi-ethnic weave of Tel Aviv through tastings at the bustling Levinsky Market, with tastes and aromas from all over the Balkans and Greek Isles.

  • Visit the Palmach Museum for a glimpse at the trials and tribulations of Israel’s pre state fighting force, which was made up of young and idealistic soon to be Israelis. (First bus at 9:00 last bus at 10:30)

    • Youth: Visit the Land of Israel Museum (Ha’aretz Museum), for an interactive experience exploring some of the lesser known stories of the Land and State of Israel.

  • Depart for Northern Israel.

  • Late lunch on your own en route.

  • Explore the complex relationship between Jewish and Pagan civilizations in the ancient Roman capital of Caesarea, a port city built on the Mediterranean Sea by Herod the Great, including a guided walk through the remains of the Roman Theater, Hippodrome, Promenade and Palace, continuing to the galleries and restaurants of the renovated Crusader City, with Historo Drama presentations by youth.

  • Drive to the Upper Galilee.

Day 4: Thursday, December 28, 2017

Nature, Security and Spirituality in Israel’s North

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Nature walk along the Dan or Banias Rivers.

  • Go Off-Road by Jeep on the dirt tracks of the Golan, exploring the natural beauty and great stories of challenge and triumph.

  • Ascend the Golan Heights to Mt. Bental

    • Adults: Overlook Syria, for an up-to-date briefing on the situation and the delicate between Syria and Israel.

    • Youth: Orienteering Program in the Bental Bunkers.

  • Possible meeting at IDF Base

  • Lunch on your own in Katzrin.

  • Drive across the Galil to Safed.

  • Guided visit through Safed—the alleyways, ancient synagogues, market, and artist colony, using the stories of the mystics as a guide, followed by

    • Adults: Visit the studio of mystical artist Avraham Lowenthal.

    • Youth: The Israel Lens 1 — an exploration of Safed with camera/smartphone in hand as the kick-off of the Jewish Lens Photographic Program.

  • All – special family program with new immigrants at the JAFI Immigrant Absorption Center.

  • Return to the hotel for rest, relaxation and dinner.

Day 5: Friday, December 29, 2017

Traveling the Rift

  • Breakfast at the hotel.

  • Drive around the Sea of Galilee.

  • Stop at Kibbutz Degania, the first Kibbutz for a Chocolate making workshop.

  • Continue to the Jordan Valley.

  • Stop at Qasr el Yahud, where some Jewish traditions claim Joshua crossed over the Jordan into the Land of Israel and where some Christian traditions claim that Jesus was baptized. (Time permitting).

  • Ascend to Jerusalem.

  • Stop at Mount Scopus for an introduction to Jerusalem and an opportunity to recite the traditional Shehechianu blessing upon arrival in Jerusalem.

  • Check in to the Dan Hotel, Jerusalem.

    • Optional Drive across the city to the Machane Yehudah Open Air Market, as residents prepare for Shabbat, with lunch on your own.

    • Return to the Hotel.

  • Free time to prepare for Shabbat.

  • Kabbalat Shabbat as a Mission Group, at a local synagogue or the Kotel (Western Wall).

  • Festive Shabbat Dinner at the hotel.

Day 6: Saturday, December 30, 2017

Shabbat in Jerusalem

  • Breakfast at the hotel.

  • Free morning at the hotel for rest, relaxation and an opportunity to attend Shabbat services.

  • Optional afternoon walking tour to the Botanic Gardens at Mount Scopus, continuing to the Desert Shade overlook toward the Judean Desert and Jordan and concluding with a walk around the Hebrew University Mount Scopus Campus.

  • Havdallah overlooking the Old City.

    • Adults: The Memory of the Holocaust in Contemporary State of Israel, dialogue with Scholar Rachel Korazim.

    • Youth: The Israeli Lens Photography Project, in the vicinity of the hotel

  • View the story of ancient Jerusalem through light and music at the Jerusalem Night Spectacular at the David Citadel Museum, followed by a free evening in Jerusalem.

Day 7: Sunday, December 31, 2017

The Layers of Jerusalem

  • Breakfast at the hotel.

  • Visit Yad Vashem, the National Memorial to the Six Million Jews Killed in the Holocaust, including the Avenue of the Righteous, with parallel programming for adults and Youth, as well as an opportunity for return visitors to visit the Art Museum and Room of Great Questions. 

    • Returnees:  Special programming at the Yad Vashem Art Museum and Archive or visit the newest exhibits at the Israel Museum.

    • Youth: Visit museum with families or take part in a special youth program.

    • Children: Special program at the Israel Museum Youth Wing.

  • Lunch on your en route.

  • Depart for the Old City of Jerusalem for a guided walk from Jaffa Gate along the Rooftops of the Old City for a bird’s eye view of the Temple Mount and continue into the Jewish Quarter, for a family challenge while exploring the Jewish Quarter.

  • Free time for personal time and mediation at the Kotel.

  • Guided walk through the Western Wall Tunnel, along the base of the Temple Mount for glimpse into Jerusalem from 2,000 years ago.

  • Dinner on your own at the Mamilla Mall.

Day 8: Monday, January 1, 2018

Memories for the Future

  • Breakfast at the hotel.

  • Celebrate the Bnai MItzvah with a special ceremony at Kol HaOt followed by a hands on art program commemorating the special event with founder Rabbi Matthew Berkowitz.

  • Depart for the Dead Sea Basin.

  • Ride the Cable Car or Hike the Snake Trail to the top of Masada, followed by a guided visit and exploration of some of the tough questions the Masada story raises, with help from the Youth’ Historo Drama.

  • Descend Masada and drive to Ein Bokek for an opportunity to float in the Dead Sea and enjoy the Spa at a Dead Sea Hotel, with lunch.

  • Drive through the Arava Desert to Eilat.

  • Check into Eilat hotel with time for rest, relaxation and dinner on your own.

Day 9: Tuesday, January 2, 2017

Strategies for Jewish Survival

  • Drive into the Arava Desert for a special program with Keren Kolot, on Building Community in the Desert and the Jewish World at Large, at Kibbutz Ketura.

  • Visit the Timna National Park.

  • Return to Eilat for the following afternoon options:

    • View of Three Borders Tour – Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt

    • The Underwater Observatory

    • Fun in the Sun.

  • Return to the hotel.

  • Enjoy a festive farewell dinner, followed by free time to experience Eilat at night.
